PARIS — Oxford County commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to authorize the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office to advertise for a part-time reserve school resource officer for School Administrative District 55 in Hiram.

Sheriff James Theriault said the officer would serve the Sacopee Valley Elementary and Middle schools.

Sacopee Valley High School has a school resource officer, Theriault said, but SAD 55 officials requested an officer for the other schools.

During an August meeting with commissioners, Theriault said he had four requests from three school districts in Oxford County for school resource officers and three people who are interested in the jobs.

“I have two requests from SAD 55, one from SAD 44 (in Bethel), and one from Buckfield Junior-Senior High School,” Theriault told commissioners.

“There’s one person who used to work in law enforcement but doesn’t right now, one person who is a retired state police sergeant and another who is a current, full-time officer in York County,” Theriault said.

“The first two people are interested in part-time positions, while the York County officer is interested in a full-time position.”

Commissioners also voted to authorize the Sheriff’s Office to move $1,590 from its drug forfeiture account into its uniform account.
