FARMINGTON — Vernon Lewis Damon, 84, of Mexico for many years, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Sandy River Center in Farmington, due to complications of dementia.

He was born in Kingfield on May 23, 1934, the son of Vernon and Edith (Gifford) Damon, and graduated from the Strong High School, Class of 1952.

Vernon was a millwright, piper and a supervisor in the maintenance department at the Rumford mill for many years, before retirement.

He was a past master of Blazing Star Masonic Lodge, former member of the Walton Lodge Knights of Pythias and Order of Eastern Star and a dad adviser for the International Order of Rainbow Girls.

He was married May 6, 1956, to the former Charlotte Virginia Davis, who died March 14, 1994. Survivors include daughters Charlene Pidacks of Dixfield and Darlene Damon of Mexico; siblings Dorothy Lambert and husband, Maurice, of Kingfield; Beverly Walker and husband, Lloyd, of Connecticut; Linda Purdue of Brewer; Arthur Allen and wife, Pam, of Auburn; Gene Damon and wife, Betty Ann, of Virginia; Cora Damon of Waterville; and Sheila Kendall and husband, John, of Maryland; granddaughters Tiffany Pidacks and husband, Eric French, of Massachusetts, and Amanda Bouchard and husband, Paul, of Livermore; great-granddaughters Kera and Cayla Bouchard; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Anne Lacourse, of Mexico.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Mexico Congregational Church, 163 Main St., Mexico, with Pastor Izzie Radford-Nash officiating. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery, Dixfield. If so desired, contributions in his memory can be made to the Mexico Congregational Church, 163 Main St., Mexico, ME 04257.
