LEWISTON — Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is looking for supervisors with a commitment to the conservation of natural resources in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties.

The volunteers must possess the understanding of natural resource concerns in the local communities of the district and have a vocational background preparing them to assist with district operations.

The district, founded in 1947, is an agency of the state cooperating with landowners and operators to help them manage and protect land and water resources on private and public lands. Conservation districts are local units of government established under state law to carry out natural resource management programs at the local level. 

People desiring to run for the office of district supervisor should contact the district manager to obtain nomination papers. Nomination papers must be received at the District Office, complete and with the signatures of 25 registered voters residing in Androscoggin or Sagadahoc counties, by 4:30 p.m. Oct. 26.

Persons who desire to run for office of supervisor must be a registered voter living within the boundaries of district. There will be one district supervisor seat opening for a three-year term.

Persons wishing to vote in the election of the district supervisor must contact the district in order to receive a ballot. All registered voters residing within the boundaries of the district are eligible to vote. Ballots will be made available at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 29.

The election for supervisors will be held from 8:30 a.m. Nov. 5 until 4:30 p.m. Nov. 16. Completed ballots must be received by mail or brought in person to the district office.
