PARIS — An Oxford man accused of ramming his truck into a garage on Greeley Brook Road in Oxford and stealing equipment was released from jail Tuesday on $1,000 cash bail.

Paul Lavoie, 51, of Gore Road was charged with theft by unauthorized taking, burglary and aggravated criminal mischief in the Oct. 3 incident, according to court records. The felonies are each punishable by up to five years in prison.

He appeared Tuesday in 11th District Court where bail was set.

According to an affidavit by Oxford police officer Zachary Bisson, he and Sgt. Rickie Jack responded to a report by a Greeley Brook Road resident that someone crashed their vehicle into his neighbor’s garage at 64 Greeley Brook Road and took items. On the way to the scene, Bisson and Jack saw Lavoie and another man in Lavoie’s driveway on Gore Road.

“Paul and (the other man) have been accused of criminal mischief from another neighbor on Greeley Brook Road in the past, so we stopped in to check on them,” Bisson wrote.

Both men denied being at the Greeley Brook Road residence, Bisson said.

Jack and Bisson continued to Greeley Brook Road where they found a garage door smashed in, red paint and black plastic on the garage door, and the driveway torn up from spinning tires. Behind the property, they discovered a fire pit and empty Budweiser cans.

The officers returned to Gore Road and drove past Lavoie’s red pickup truck, noticing it had front-end damage and empty Budweiser cans in the bed.

Later, Bisson said another Greeley Brook Road advised him he had video of Lavoie driving on his property, kicking up dirt and rocks.

Bisson got a search warrant and arrested Lavoie on Oct. 5.

Among the equipment stolen from the garage were a shop vac, a chain saw and a surveillance camera, Jack said.

Lavoie was released on bail Tuesday with conditions that include he not use or possess alcohol or illegal drugs, submit to random search and testing, and not contact the owner of the Greeley Brook Road residence.
