AUBURN – Ora “Jean” Stronach, 97, of Auburn peacefully passed away on Sunday October 21, 2018 at the Hospice House in Auburn.  She was born in Lewiston on October 19, 1921 the daughter of the late Wilbur and Helen (Hunt) Thurlow.  She grew up in the Auburn area and attended local schools there.  She was a graduate of Edward Little High School, class of 1939.

Immediately after high school, Jean went to work at the Bates Mill ( Hill Division).  During that time, she met and eventually married Al Stronach and they started a family together.  They shared many wonderful years together.

Jean will always be remembered for her love of sewing, camping, cooking, spending time with her family and friends and collecting stuffed animals.  She was very proud of the fact that she actually sewed and made the family’s first camping tent.  She will be deeply missed by many.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Plummer of Mechanic Falls; her brother, Elwin Thurlow  and his wife Jackie of Scarborough; her grandson, Troy Plummer and his wife Dawn of Mechanic Falls; and two great-grandchildren, Jameson and Jonathan Plummer.  She also leaves behind her extended Driscoll family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Al Stronach; her daughter, Debra; and her two brothers, Donald and Frederick Thurlow.

Visitation will be held at Fortin\Auburn on Friday Oct. 26, 2018 from 2 – 5 p.m.  A memorial service celebrating her life will take place on Saturday Oct. 27, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. also at the funeral home with committal prayers following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Auburn.  Arrangements are under the care of The Fortin Group \ Plummer & Merrill Funeral Home, Cremation and Monument Services 217 Turner St. Auburn, 783-8545.
