BRUNSWICK – Ruth H. Bean, 101, of Topsham, passed away peacefully at MidCoast Hospital, Brunswick, on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2018, following a short illness.  She was born March13, 1917 in Lynn, Mass. to Frank L and Edith Dexter Hay.

Ruth spent her early years in Hebron. She attended Gould Academy, graduating in 1934. Ruth attended the Auburn Maine School of Commerce and worked for 25 years for the State of Maine, Dept. of Human Services, Division of Public Health Nursing.  After retirement from the State, she worked and volunteered at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She married Herman H. Bean in 1947.  They spent many years of enjoyment camping at both Norway Lake and Little Kennebago.  They both loved the outdoors and snowmobiling.

She was predeceased by her husband Herman in 1993; as well as an infant child, Barbara Elaine, in 1952.  I

n 1999, Ruth moved to Topsham to be near her family and lived there for over 20 years.  While in residence, she turned 100 years old and received the Boston Cane for the oldest resident in Topsham.  She was a member of the Jefferson Chapter #89, OES, Bryant Pond, and the American Legion Auxiliary #72 in South Paris as well as the Snowhoppers Snowmobile Club.  Ruth is survived by her daughter, Janie Bean Welch; and her granddaughter Tammy Welch Noyes and her husband Todd.  She also leaves behind a very special great grandson Kody James Noyes.

Graveside prayers will be held at Riverside Cemetery in South Paris on Wednesday, October 24th at 3:00. Friends are welcome to join the family at that time. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation
