As a Wilton resident, I admire both candidates as hard-working, well-liked, involved community members.

That said, during the past eight years, the current Legislature has cut taxes to the wealthiest residents three times. At the same time, the state halved the amount of collected taxes it returns to towns, costing my district more than $10 million. That hurts the district by transferring the tax burden to property taxes.

The Legislature has also done nothing to address health care costs. It is time for a change in Augusta.

I will be voting for Jan Collins. She has experience in education, health care, criminal justice and environmental protection. She has worked on numerous boards and committees and is a nonjudgmental listener and speaker. She researches issues without bias and is focused on addressing the costs of health care, taxes and education funding.
