PORTLAND (AP) — More than 8,000 Maine residents were without power following an October Nor’easter with high winds that blew through coastal areas.

On Sunday morning, Central Maine Power was reporting about 4,600 outages and Emera Maine about 3,700 outages.

By mid-afternoon, Emera was down to 917 and at CMP 4,176, with Oxford County, at 2,158 customers without power, being hardest hit.

Emera Maine is urging drivers to slow down or change lanes if possible when approaching utility crews working on roadways.

The remnants of what used to be Hurricane Willa transformed into a Nor’easter that moved through Maine and New Hampshire on Saturday and early Sunday with rain, gusty winds and snow.
