100 years ago: 1918
All members of Knights of Pythias who are interested in the convention to be held at Augusta next Monday evening are requested to meet at the Eureka Hall Friday evening. Those who are interested in the convention and are unable to make this meeting are asked to telephone Grand Chancellor Walker between 6 and 7 p.m. Friday.
50 years ago: 1968
They are a little late this year. Usually, one of the first harbingers of winter in the Twin Cities is the installation on North and South bridges of windscreens along the walks, across the bridges. This year there have been three snowstorms already and state highway crews Friday installed the screen on South Bridge and got a start on the one on North Bridge. But the weatherman had already given warning on the coming season.
25 years ago: 1993
Copies of the newly published history of Mechanic Falls have gone on sale at the Town Office in the Municipal Building and at the Mechanic Falls Library at a price of $10. The library is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The history of the community from 1795 to 1893 was compiled and edited by Eriks Petersons in commemoration of this year’s 100th anniversary of the town’s incorporation.
