AUGUSTA — Lewiston Democrat James Handy was confirmed the winner of the House District 58 race by the Maine Secretary of State’s Office, following a recount of ballots.
Handy and Republican Denise Hurilla were separated by 43 votes before the recount. After the recount, Handy lost four votes while Hurilla gained 1, confirming Handy’s victory.
In the final tabulation, Handy received 2,011 votes to Hurilla’s 1,973.
District 58 covers part of the city of Lewiston.
On Tuesday, a recount is scheduled for the House District 82 race between Kent Ackley, an independent, and Republican Randy Greenwood. The district includes Litchfield, Wales and part of Monmouth. Unofficial results showed Ackley with 2,153 votes and Greenwood with 2,125.
