Beatrice Elaine Jordan Buck
1928 – 2018

PORTLAND – Beatrice Elaine Jordan Buck of Bethel passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, following a long decline.

She was born in Locke Mills, on June 19, 1928, the third of five children, born to Gladys Dunham Jordan and Orlando Jordan. Bea grew up on “the knoll” in Locke Mills, and was a devoted young member of Locke Mills Union Church.

She was predeceased by three siblings, Bernice Brown, Richard Jordan and Reynold Jordan.

She is survived by her brother, Arnold Jordan of Locke Mills.

Bea married Raymond Buck on April 15, 1947. They had three children, Andrew Buck who passed away in September, 2010, Catherine Buck of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Roger Buck of Portland. She will also be missed by eight grandchildren: Kate Preston, Frank Martin-Buck, Elizabeth Rice, Valarie Buck, Christine Takisawa, Nathan Buck, Eric Martin-Buck and Nina Sasser, and four great-grandchildren.

Together Raymond and Bea raised eggs and vegetables on their family farm on Intervale Road, in Bethel. They operated an Agway farm supply business and a vegetable stand at the farm for over fifty years, until Raymond passed away in October of 2000. Bea loved to sing and would improvise harmonies. We fondly remember that she was usually singing as she went about her work.

Beatrice continued to live on the farm until she was unable to live on her own and loved to sit by the window watching the seasons pass over the fields. She enjoyed watching the flowers in her yard bloom and the seasonal birds come and go. She continued to sing with her family even after she was no longer able to hold a conversation. A love of the farm in Bethel binds us all to her and each other. She will be missed.

Visiting hours will be held at Chandler Funeral Home, Greenleaf Chapel, 37 Vernon Street, Bethel, from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, at the Locke Mills Union Church on Route 26.
