Dorothy Ann Emery

 

1933 – 2018

 

RUMFORD – Dorothy Ann Emery of Hanover, Maine, went to be with our Lord & Savior during her short stay at Rumford Community Home on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018.

Dottie was born in Peru, Maine on Jan. 22, 1933, the youngest of nine children of Madelyn and Herbert Knox. She grew up and was educated in Andover, where she loved to go and reminisce throughout her life.

She married Gerald Emery on Aug. 16, 1953, and gave birth to five children over 11 years. She devoted her life to her strong Christian faith and witnessed the life of Christ and the importance of being born again to many friends, family and strangers. She spent a good portion of her life raising her children and working as a long-term sales person for Electrolux. Her favorite hobbies were socializing, playing cards with friends and mastering the daily crossword puzzles. She will always be remembered for her fun filled, high spirited soul who kept everyone in laughter and close to the Lord as well.

 

Dottie is survived by Gerald, her husband of 65 years; her four children, Gina Douglass and her husband, Brian, Karen Verrill and her husband, Brian, Kathy Brown, Jeffrey Emery and his wife, Jill; as well as her son-in-law, David Brown. Also surviving her are eight grandchildren, Brianne, Brooke, Braden, Bronson, Christy, Chance, Caydran and Emily; as well as 14 great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Kitty Smith who resides in Florida with her husband, Richard, and Geneva Goddard who resides in Maine.

 

She was predeceased by her parents Madelyn and Herbert Knox; two brothers, Warren and Herbert; four sisters, Thelma, Blandine, Everdine and June; as well as her son, Jerry; and two grandchildren, Hilary and Brandon.

 

Family and friends are invited to attend a casual Open House Celebration of Life on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 1-4 p.m., at the Andover Congregational Church meetinghouse, in the town Andover, Maine.
