Richard E. Varney
1938 – 2018
NORWAY – Richard E. Varney, 80, passed away peacefully at Clover Nursing Home, Saturday, Nov.17, 2018.
He was born in Lewiston, Jan. 22 1938, the son of the late George Edward and Florence (Libby) Varney.
On Aug. 3, 1957 he married Barbara Andrews. Together they raised three children, Rick Willard, Rev. Christopher Scott and Coleen Sue. In addition, he leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a sister, Jacqueline Varney Lothrop and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother, William L. Varney.
He worked at Falcom Ruler while in High School, following that he worked at Hutchins Box for 10 years and 23 years for Gould and Scammon as a pattern maker and as a sales representative. In 1990, he and Barbara bought Two Lakes campground, which they ran for 11 years.
He is fondly remembered for his desire to make people laugh.
The service will be Dec. 1, at the Crossroads Community Church, 14 Lewiston Road, Gray, Maine.
Visiting hour will be 12-1 p.m. The service begins at 1 p.m. Following the service there is a luncheon/reception downstairs.
