JAY — Police said an Auburn man is accused of unlawful sexual contact with a teenage girl Saturday in Jay.

Richard R. Hunt, 23, was arrested Saturday by Jay police Detective Russell Adams on a felony charge of gross sexual assault, according to Farmington District Court records. However, following review by the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office on Monday, the charge was amended to felony unlawful sexual contact, according to the state’s complaint.

A conviction on either charge is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Hunt was also charged with a violation of condition of release related to a separate case. A conviction carries a maximum penalty of up to six months in jail.

Hunt was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington, where he was being held without bail Monday pending his appearance before a judge.

The initial complaint was made to another police department, with Adams investigating for the Jay Police Department.

The girl is younger than 18 and is not from Jay.
