LIVERMORE FALLS — Food donations and volunteers are being sought for the annual Free Christmas Day Dinner to be held at the American Legion Hall, 17 Reynolds Ave., from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on December 25.

Organizers Renda Guild, Debbie Breton and Rose Darling met Dec. 2 to start planning this year’s dinner. The dinner is open to anyone, not just those in the Tri-Town area, although meal delivery is only available for residents of Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls.

“We’ve been doing this for more than 20 years,” Breton said.

The menu includes ham and turkey with all the fixings, plus beverages and pies. Guests take home a bag of cookies.

Volunteers are needed to cook hams or turkeys in their homes.

Verso has donated five spiral hams for the meal. Seven or eight 12-15 pound turkeys are needed as are jellied cranberry sauce, green beans, stuffing mixes, milk, butter and Hawaiian punch. Pies, cookies and cupcakes are needed for the dessert table.

Non-perishable items and cash donations, for needed items not donated, may be dropped off during business hours at the Livermore Town Office, 10 Crash Road, or River View Plumbing and Heating, 3 Bridge St., Livermore Falls.

Several area businesses are helping support the dinner with donations or discounts.

For those who would like to help Christmas Day, volunteers are needed to set up from 7-9:30 a.m. Those wishing to help serve should arrive by 10:30 a.m. Clean up will be from 1-2:30 p.m.

Guild said leftover food would be donated to area food pantries, Vesta housing, the Veterans’ home and Western Maine Homeless Outreach.

Numbers are needed to ensure enough food is prepared. Those planning to attend or needing meals delivered should contact Renda Guild at 931-7338, Rose Darling at 491-2831, or Debbie Breton at 897-5095.

Organizers and interested individuals will meet again 6:30 p.m., Sunday, December 9 at the Livermore Town Office. Everyone is welcome to attend.
