NORWAY – Gertrude Whitman, 92, of Norway, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, at Stephens Memorial Hospital. She was born in Bethel on Aug. 16, 1926, the daughter of Carroll M. and Leona Marston Curtis. She graduated from Paris High School in 1944 and married Oiva E. Whitman on Oct. 6, 1944.

 

She had been an office manager for the Soil and Conservation Service and the F.H.A. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in South Paris where she was the church historian. Gertrude enjoyed knitting, crocheting, puzzles, writing and travel. She loved day trips and watching people.

She is survived by her children, Dawnalyn Pace and husband, Dar, Charles Whitman and wife, Tammy and Deborah Chavez and husband, Ellery; three grandchildren, Darwin, Lori and Dana; a great-grandchild, Isaah; a sister-in-law, Martha Edgar and her husband, Gordon; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; and three siblings.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in South Paris. Interment will be in the spring at King Hill Cemetery.
