NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has announced the January calendar. In case of inclement weather, when School Administrative District 17 cancels school the CRCWM will also be closed.
Drop in hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays (winter hours) and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or look for resources. A variety of activities are also available.
Yoga Warriors — Wednesdays, Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 3 to 4 p.m. at Posabilities, 15 Tannery St. This free, gentle yoga class can help support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breath, supportive restorative yoga postures, and guided meditation and relaxation. Banding Together To Restore — Thursdays, Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, 9 to 10 a.m. at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St. This exercise program, with Lori Britting leading, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and elastic bands. Each participant will be encouraged to work within their abilities that can help safely gain their desired goals. Getting back energy and the ability to move easier and carry out daily tasks are part of this program. Preregistration is encouraged. Yoga for Wellness — Fridays, Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25, 8 to 9 a.m. at the center. Either Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class, which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing. Visit the website for more information.
Chair Yoga — Fridays, Jan. 4, 11 and 25, 3 to 4 p.m. at the center. Sherri will lead the class, which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing.
Self-Reflexology — Friday, Jan. 11, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the center. Karen Tibbetts will demonstrate how applying pressure to reflex points may help improve circulation and reduce body stress.
Self-Reiki — Tuesday, Jan. 22, 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the center. Charlotte Labelle will demonstrate how reiki may help to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
Stampin’ Up — Tuesday, Jan. 15 (new date), 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the center. Kathy provides materials and instruction to make a variety of cards.
Fun with Crafts — Tuesdays, Jan. 8 and 15, 4 to 6 p.m. Sherri and other volunteers will bring in a different project for folks to try. Folks can stop in to learn or bring in a project they are working on to share.
Wire Wrapping — Tuesday, Jan. 22, 4 to 6 p.m. Chris Doyle will teach the craft of wire wrapping. Materials will be provided for people to try the craft and take something they make home.
Beginner Ukulele with Nancy Hohmann — Saturday, Jan. 29, 4 to 6 p.m. Nancy will teach the basic skills in playing the ukulele. There will be some ukuleles to practice on but folks are welcome to bring their own.
The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine is at 199 Main St. in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building. Hours are 3 to 6 p.m. (winter hours) Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.
