Drumming group making a beat 

LEWISTON — The Hand Drumming Group plays from 1 to 3 p.m. on the second Sunday of the month, at Trinity Church, 247 Bates St.

All levels and styles of drummers can play, and they can bring their own instrument or try one of the club’s drums. The cost to play is by donation.

Pinback button craft at library

FREEPORT — Use materials such as personal photos, coloring book pages and more to make pinback buttons from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the Freeport Community Library.

The library will provide button makers, colored pencils, crayons, markers and coloring book pages available to copy; the staff encourages people to bring supplemental materials from home to fuel creativity. This program is open to all ages and no preregistration is required.

Mexico Trail Blazers to meet

MEXICO — The Mexico Trail Blazers will be holding its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, downstairs at the Mexico Town Hall. All are welcome to attend. For more information call Nick Brown 207-364-8665 or check them out on Facebook.

The Mexico Trail Blazers meet the first and third Wednesday of every month, at the same time and same place.

Open observatory night

NORWAY — The Twitchell Observatory will present Observe the Stars! open observatory night at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4.

There will be a focus on viewing the bright stars of the Winter Hexagon, which includes Orion, Orion  nebula, Mars and more. There will be volunteer telescopes available, and there will also be naked eye observationsof constellations. Be sure to dress warmly; a warming hut will be on site. 

If skies aren’t clear, the event will be moved to Saturday, Jan. 5. This event is free and open to the public.

The Twitchell Observatory has moved but is not yet ready for use, so the event will be set up on Roberts Road across from Norway Lake, past the Roberts Farm Preserve entrance, second driveway on the left.

AUBURN — Mid-Maine Waste Action Corp closed on Christmas, and residents can drop off trash and recycling at no charge during regular business hours: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Trash and recycling will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 1. As usual, all trash and recycling should be curbside by 7 a.m.
