FARMINGTON — The Hippach Field skating rink and warming hut opened for the season on Dec. 30. The rink, operated by the recreation department, is open to the public. There is no fee to use the rink.

Weather permitting, the rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The rink is closed during heavy snowstorms and if the temperature falls below two degrees Fahrenheit. Skaters are asked to stay off the ice if the rink is closed for any reason.

Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights are reserved for hockey. On these nights, hockey for students in kindergarten through sixth grade and supervising adults takes place 4 – 5:30 p.m. Middle and high school students can play 5:30 – 7 p.m. College students and adults have use of the rink 7 – 8:30 p.m.

The warming hut is open Friday 4 – 8:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Sunday and weekdays during school vacations 1 – 8:30 p.m.

During warming hut hours, music is played for skaters to enjoy. Ice skates and skate training aids available at no charge for public use. Hot cocoa is available for a nominal fee. Heated restrooms are also available when the warming hut is open.
