WILTON — Police said a Belgrade man is accused of assaulting an acquaintance after he broke into the man’s home late Friday.

Wilton police arrested Adam Brunelle, 35, on felony charges of burglary and aggravated assault, Chief Heidi Wilcox said Monday.

Brunelle had a grudge against the man and assaulted him, she said.

Police received a report of the assault at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

The assault is aggravated because the man has broken bones and likely will have an extended convalescence and possible surgery, Wilcox said. He initially refused medical treatment but later allowed an officer to take him to a hospital, the chief said.

Brunelle was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington and released Monday on $250 cash bail and a supervised release agreement.

A conviction on each charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
