DEAR SUN SPOTS: As the operator of the Wellness Mobile covering Androscoggin, Oxford, Franklin and Sagadahoc counties, I want to let everyone know we’re starting a campaign to locate possible resources to continue our work. The Wellness Mobile is a 1965 Ford Fairlane that is uses to visit youth and families at multiple public events throughout the year. Financial resources are needed to help us get to the events and to participate in them.

As we receive more requests to be part of these events because of increased substance abuse and because people are becoming more concerned about its effects on youth and families, we are unable to keep up with the many requests for resource materials.

We are in urgent need of gas cards so we can continue our outreach and keep the Wellness Mobile on the road. We are also asking local businesses for bags with their logo that could be used as a handy way to hand out our literature that covers the topics of substance abuse prevention, suicide, bullying, and cyberbullying. Other types of bags can be used as well and don’t have to be fancy. Small paper party bags from the Dollar Store and quart-size zipper bags can be used as well.

Gas cards and bags can be sent to Eddie Burgess, Wellness Mobile Operator, at 9 Atwood St., Suite #3, Lewiston, ME 04240. For more information, contact him at edward.burgess@maine.edu.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Where in the Lewiston-Auburn area could one refill empty gallon containers with drinking water? Hannaford no longer provides this much-needed service.

— No name, no town

ANSWER: Gee, that’s too bad! I made some calls but came up empty when it comes to filling water jugs. Readers, do you know of a place? While we’re on this subject, it is important to remember to wash plastic water jugs with warm soapy water and rinse them thoroughly. It has been reported that these are a prime place for bacteria, especially if they are subjected to changes in temperature.
