BRUNSWICK — The Theater Project, 114 School St., is excited to present “Peter and the Starcatcher” in February. This Tony award-winning play, written by Rick Elice and based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, is directed by The Theater Project’s Artistic Director Al Miller.

This whimsical, creative adventure of The Boy of Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan), “Peter and the Starcatcher” is a rich and exciting imagining of the backstory of J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy. In this prequel, the audience meets Peter when he was just a nameless orphan boy, Captain Hook when he still had two hands, and Wendy Darling’s mother, Molly, a curious, clever 13-year-old.

As Miller says, “Who was Peter Pan before he was Peter Pan? How did Peter learn to fly? The answers lie in this delightful story that moves fast enough to leave a wake in the sea that the audience is asked to imagine.”

From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, “Peter and the Starcatcher” playfully explores the depths of greed and despair and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

“Peter and the Starcatcher” will be onstage at The Theater Project from Feb. 1-17. There will be an opening night reception on Friday, Feb. 1, where everyone is welcome to enjoy refreshments after the show and to meet the director, cast and crew. Other performance times are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Thursday shows are Pay-What-You-Want nights. Top level seating in the theater is always Pay-What-You-Want. Regular tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, $10 for children 12 and under and kids under 2 are free as long as they sit on a patron’s lap.
