50 years ago: 1969

Milton Levy, Senior Vice President of Zayres, in charge of real estate, said construction is expected to begin soon. The “huge” Zayre Store and Zayre Automotive Service Center will be located on East Avenue near Lisbon Street, Lewiston. Zayre plans to open the store this fall.

25 years ago: 1994

The Buckfield Historical Society elected officers at its recent meeting. They are President Mary Young; Vice President Kenneth Cooper; Secretary Julia Cooper; Treasurer Richard Perry and Trustee Ernest Bean Jr. The group met in its new permanent history room at the town office building. Eight members attended. The group discussed building bookcases to store articles and miscellaneous material that has been given to the society.
