AUBURN – Anita Fontaine, 95, of Auburn, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019. She was born in Auburn on Nov. 26, 1923, the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret Allain.

A graduate of Edward Little High School in 1941, she also attended Auburn Maine School of Commerce and was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Anita resided on Poland Road throughout her life, where she remained close to her friends and family.

Anita enjoyed time together with her family and loved watching the birds and animals in her backyard. She was devoted to her family and will be especially remembered and admired for her smile, courage, sense of humor and resilience through life’s ups and downs.

Anita is predeceased by her husband Edward Fontaine; brother James Allen, and sisters Viola Sullivan, Loretta Armstrong, Gloria Gowell, and Virginia “Dolly” Allain. She is survived by her sister Margarita Clifford; children Edward “Ned” Fontaine and wife Debbie, Peter Fontaine and wife Sue, Kerry Fontaine and wife Joyce, Jill Bourgeois and husband George, and Suzanne Lawrence; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Anita’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the many physicians and healthcare professionals who have helped her through the years. The kindness and care shown to Anita by the staff at Montello Manor and St. Mary’s Hospital, especially during this past month, has been amazing.

Anita will be greatly missed by all who knew her. May she now rest in peace.

Arrangements for a memorial service will be made at a later date.
