EUSTIS — “It all started over not being able to find any takeout menus online,” said Will Schnorr of Eustis. “It was the kind of night where we wanted to place an order, pop in somewhere to pick it up and come home to eat. My girlfriend and I couldn’t find menu info for any of the local places so we had to go out to find menus and then wait while our food was prepared.”

Schnorr used the frustration of the experience to build a business, Avery Peak Website Service. “Officially, the business is in its infancy,” he said. “Unofficially, I have been doing this for a while.

“It started as a hobby. I started by gathering menu information and building websites for Eustis eateries. Business owners were amazed by the success of their websites. They discovered their sites were being used by both returning and new customers.”

As the age of information changes, so do the expectations of customers, he added.

“Are you more likely to pull out a phone to find what you are looking for or drive back and forth until you find something,” he asked? “If a business is not online, they are missing a golden opportunity to retain customer base and grow.”

One customer found the simple change of having a menu on a website saved time and money. “It was more efficient to not have employees recite the menu with every call,” Schnorr said.

Word spread and more people began seeking Schnorr’s expertise. Sporting camps, entertainers, and businesses from beyond Eustis are among Avery Peak Website Service clients.

“It doesn’t matter if you are a small business or band, everyone wants to have relationships with fans and customers want to interact with businesses,” he said. “When you think about it, I help businesses establish relationships. A polished website and sound use of social media gives businesses a professional look and helps them keep in touch with existing and potential customers.”

He also offers social media workshops covering topics like how to interact on social media, how to make pages look sharp, and how to get the interaction businesses are looking for. “I feel like the mountain and foothills area of Maine is neglected in the tourism industry,” he said. “Word of mouth is good, but interaction is key.”

Avery Peak Website Service also offers logo creation services. Schnorr can design business cards, apparel and more.

“I like seeing small businesses and, more importantly, local businesses succeed to the point where it would be intimidating to big chains,” he added.
