Observatory to hold star gazing night

NORWAY — Those wishing may observe the stars from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the Twitchell Observatory.

Spring Fever Fundraiser for senior class

NORWAY — A Spring Fever Fundraiser to benefit the Oxford Hill Comprehensive High School Class of 2019 will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the American Legion, 212 Main St.

There will be a Chinese Auction with 70-plus items, 16 local crafters and vendors and a food booth.

Socrates Cafe to meet

BRIDGTON — The Socrates Cafe will meet at 6:15 p.m. Monday, March 4, at the Bridgton Community Center.

Meet and greet will be from 6:15 – 6:30p.m., followed by discussion from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The discussion topis is: Is it fair to judge adults for youthful bad behavior? Moderator will be Bob Casimiro.

Area churches to join for Ash Wednesday service

MEXICO — Ash Wednesday will be observed at an interdenominational service at the Mexico Congregational Church, UCC, the “Green Church,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6. Participating will be the Mexico Congregational Church, Pastor Izzie Radford-Nash; St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Rumford, Deacon, the Rev. Cindy Dawson; and Rumford United Methodist Church, Pastor Robin Chaput.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a season of reflection before the celebrations of Easter. Everyone is welcome.

Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust to hold open house

RANGELEY — Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust host an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, March 8. The public is invited to tour the new space at 2424 Main St., Rangeley Village. Refreshments will be served.

“This is the perfect opportunity for anyone interested in RLHT to come meet us and see what we have to offer our community, ask questions, and meet our staff,” said Program Manager Amanda Laliberte. “The open house is a great way to explore our upcoming programming and learn about recent land acquisitions.”

Annual Pizza Challenge 

OXFORD — Oxford Recreation Department will be hosting the annual Pizza Challenge from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Station House Community Center, 223 King St.

Local pizza bakers will be highlighting their pies in the categories of cheese, pepperoni and their specialty pie. Come sample the pies and vote for the best.

Cost is $3 for adults, $1.50 for children 10 and younger.

Moose Dash Snowshoe Race

RANGELEY — The sixth annual Moose Dash Snowshoe Race will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 10, at Rangeley Lakes Trails Center, 524 Saddleback Mountain Road.

Registration will be accepted up to one hour before the race.Classes include 5K junior, 5K adult, 1K Kids Fun Run and a 5K untimed tour.

WATERFORD — Recreational skeet shooting is held at 1 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. Thursdays at the Waterford Fish & Game Association, Route 118.

Senior fellowship group to meet Thursdays  

LOVELL — The Gathering Place, a senior fellowship group, meets Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lovell United Church of Christ, 1174 Main St.

Meetings are free and open to any senior who wishes to drop in. Folks attending the meetings should bring their own lunch. Coffee, tea and snacks are provided. A hot meal is provided on the first Thursday of each month.
