Owls Head museum to open new exhibit Feb. 7

The Owls Head Transportation Museum will open a 2,000-square foot exhibition illustrating the electrifying evolution of tourism and transportation history that defined the State of Maine as an international tourism destination beginning Feb. 7.

The evolution of Maine’s distinctive cultural identity is documented in the state’s history of transportation. Road to Vacationland will offer a view into the development of everything from roads to motels, ultimately creating an infrastructure to attract and accommodate people from away year after year.

With immersive displays and historic artifacts, this exhibition will offer an opportunity for all ages to experience the first 200 years of Maine’s journey to become known as “the way life should be.” Road to Vacationland has been funded in part by a grant from the Maine Bicentennial Commission and the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
