Gov. Angus King signed a bill Thursday approving a referendum to build a new school in Poland, bringing the School Union 29 towns of Poland, Minot and Mechanic Falls one small step closer to someday having a high school of their own. The fate of the new school now rests with local residents in a referendum vote scheduled for March 5. If passed, the measure would provide for the construction of a new school in Poland with a long-term tuition structure from the towns of Mechanic Falls and Minot. “The debate on educational facilities has been ongoing for 25 years,” said State Rep. John Underwood, R-Oxford. “It is great to see that the towns have come together and that this project may now be put to the voters in these communities.”
