PARIS — Dollar General is open for business in South Paris.
The discount retailer is located at 259 Main Street, at the former location of Rite Aid. The pharmacy was closed about two years ago when the drug store chain was acquired by its competitor Walgreen’s, which has a store across the street.
Dollar General joins competitors Family Dollar, which is already established on Main Street in South Paris, and Dollar Tree, located at Oxford Plaza on Main Street in Oxford.
Another Dollar General was built and opened in West Paris at the corner of Routes 219 and 26 in 2014.
The South Paris store is expected to employ between six and 10 people. In a statement, the company said that it provides employees with competitive wages, a strong training and development program and benefits that include health insurance, 401K savings and retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, paid parental leave and adoption assistance for eligible employees.
Currently South Paris’ Dollar General lists open positions for an assistant manager and permanent and temporary clerks.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
