Patricia “Patsy” Mercier

RUMFORD – Patricia “Patsy” Mercier, 87; passed away peacefully on Feb 13, 2021 and is back in the company of her husband, Edward “Snookie” Mercier who predeceased her by 10 years.

She was born and raised in Mexico and graduated from Mexico High School. During that time she met Snookie at the Rumford Institute while roller skating. That led to a marriage of 53 years, four children and a home in Rumford.

Patsy was a stay at home mom until her children grew older, then went to work at St A and John’s school cafeteria. From there she went on to work as the manager of the Rumford Hospital coffee shop and also at Park Place.

During these years she also worked as a ballot clerk and volunteered at church fairs, hospital fairs, blood drives, Bingo and local fundraisers in her community.

Most of all she loved her cat, Bunker, and also her time spent with her son-in-law, Dan, who inherited the cat.

A few hobbies she enjoyed were puzzle making, knitting, crocheting, and being on her iPad. There wasn’t a day without ice cream or talking to Dot on the phone.

Most memorable, she loved hosting her annual Christmas breakfast buffet at her home.

Patsy is survived by her children, Laurie (Dan) Reed, Wayne (Nancy) Mercier, Lynn (Preston) Root, Janet Mercier; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; her sisters, Lucille Norris and Sr Gloria Cote.

She was predeceased by her husband, Snookie; her parents, Michael and Lea Cote; her brother, Robert Cote and her sister, Connie Easter.

She had a loving, caring spirit sharing her positive life with all of us. Mom will be remembered by everyone as a gentle, kind and loving person who left each of us a small part of her graciousness that will remind us that her beauty lives on. Her loving touch will be missed but never forgotten by her family. We all welcome the peace that Mom now has and that she is reunited with Dad in Heaven.
