Theresa Kerchner, executive director of the Kennebec Land Trust, will give a virtual presentation on land conservation and stewardship in central Maine at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, hosted by the Bailey Library in Winthrop. The event is the second part of a yearlong series celebrating Maine women.

Established in 1988, the Kennebec Land Trust has partnered with landowners in twenty-one communities to conserve Maine’s landscape. Some of the most popular properties include Vaughan Woods in Hallowell and Farmingdale, the Mt. Pisgah Conservation Area in Winthrop, and Horseshoe Island on Cobbossee Lake. In addition to land management, the Land Trust is also known for their many miles of trails.

Kerchner earned a master’s degree in ecology and environmental science from the University of Maine in 2002, where she developed a case study of the land use history of the Jabez Besse Farm in Wayne. Her undergraduate degree is in environmental resource management from Pennsylvania State University. Theresa and her husband, Jim, garden, raise chickens, split wood, and enjoy their 72 acres of woodland in Wayne.
