The Trek Across Maine fundraising bike ride will be a virtual event again this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The event, an annual fundraiser for the American Lung Association now in its 37th year, had been scheduled for June 18-20. Last year’s ride was also held virtually, with 1,200 cyclists raising $550,000 for health education, advocacy and lung research. The Trek Across Maine is the largest fundraiser in the country for the American Lung Association.

Participants in the virtual Trek can track their own progress and complete their mileage goals for Trek Across Maine by cycling 60, 120 or 180 miles at their own pace before June 30.

Riders can download the American Lung Association’s new Cycle for Air app or join the Trek Strava Club to ride virtually with friends. There will also be recommended ride routes, scavenger hunts, Trek Bingo and weekly giveaways on the Trek Across Maine website and social media pages.

Registration for the event is $25. Minimum fundraising requirements have been reduced to $250. Go to trekacrossmaine.org to register and learn more.
