WEST PARIS — There is a sense that we are beginning to emerge from the winter darkness. We look toward warmer days and this year perhaps more than any other, hope for better days ahead. Let us turn hope to action. Join us for Sunday worship services, 9:00 a.m. All are welcome! Please note that we are following safety practices of wearing masks and social distancing. We are not singing during the hymns, but we are uplifted by the music of Tom Coolidge.
March 7, Changing the Words, led by The Reverend Fayre Stephenson. Just as our Unitarian Universalist faith has evolved, our hymns have changed to keep pace. At this music-filled service we will consider the stories behind our hymns and the people who wrote them.
March 14, “The Comfort of a Sweater” led by guest speaker, Cynthia Reedy. How trials, challenges and many physical hardships can be alleviated by simple things, such as a sweater, a warm cup of cocoa, or gingerbread hot from the oven. The word “cosy” does not have the same meaning in Texas as it does in Maine. To understand cosy, you have to brave a few cold drafts.
March 21, Activist Theology led by The Reverend Fayre Stephenson. Activist Theology bridges the gap between academia and activism, bringing the wisdom of the streets to the work of scholarship, all for the sake of political liberation and social change for marginalized communities. Join us in a consideration of how theology and ethics can break new ground in the work of justice, hope, and liberation for all.
March 28, The Historical Jesus, a viewpoint from the developing Universalism, led by The Reverend Doctor Fred Jordan. As this is Palm Sunday in the Christian Faith, it seems like an appropriate time to discuss the role of the historical Jesus of Nazareth in the development of Universalism as we know it today. This will be both from a historical perspective and from Rev. Jordan’s own practice of the faith.
