DEAR SUN SPOTS: Ever since our successful outdoor plant sale last fall, which you helped to advertise, people have been asking when the Androscoggin Hospice Thrift Store will be having another one. Now that spring is on its way and people are feeling safer about shopping indoors, we’re hoping you can get the word out on our Cabin-Fever-Reliever.
We’re excited to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday, March 17, with a festive “Go for the Green!” houseplant sale offering a chance for shoppers to bring home spring cheer while supporting a good cause. Selections will range from easy-care classics such as pothos and arrowhead plants to colorful kalanchoes, spiderwort, and polka dot plants. A special “multi-cultural” collection will feature German ivy, Swedish ivy and African violets. A variety of ceramic pots and woven baskets will also be available, or shoppers can bring their own decorative containers and we will match them with the perfect plant.
Store hours that day are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To keep all safe, shoppers are reminded to wear their masks and observe social distancing. Also, Sun Spots readers who are looking to declutter during their spring housecleaning are invited to donate unneeded plant pots, baskets or other housewares during the store’s designated donation hours: Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. The Androscoggin Hospice Thrift Store is at 245 Center St. in Auburn in the former Roak Mall. For more information, call the store at 312-5092 or go online https://androscoggin.org/hospicethriftstore/or www.facebook.com/AndroscogginHospiceThriftStore/ .

ANSWER: This is a wonderful fundraiser and I hope everyone who can will take part!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have one gallon of lacquer thinner, one gallon of wood preservative, and one gallon of muriatic acid to give away. Please call 783-3850 if interested. — Normand, no town
ANSWER: I’m sure a home-improvement inspired reader or handyperson will appreciate these items to use for their projects. Muriactic acid is often used to balance the pH in a swimming pool and can also remove mold and rust stains in said pool. The chemical, a diluted solution of hydrochloric acid, is also used to clean stucco, brick, and rock and even stained toilets. Just handle all these items with much care!
