Police arrested a Harpswell man Wednesday after he allegedly fired several rounds from a handgun during an argument in Topsham.
Police say they were called to a Meadow Road home at around 3:20 p.m. A 21-year-old woman who was present at the time was not injured.
Christopher Williams, 41, was outside the home when he allegedly fired seven rounds from the gun while the woman was inside, according to police.
Topsham Police Chief Marc Hagan said Thursday that police found shell casings in the driveway and that neighbors heard the shooting.
Hagan said police do not know what he was aiming at, but added that the victim said Williams shot at the house. Police have found shell casing and neighbors reported hearing the shooting. Police have not found bullets or see any markings on or damage to the side of the house, Hagan said.
Police said that, prior to firing the weapon, Williams prevented the woman from calling 911 and damaged her phone.
Williams was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years incarceration and a $5,000 fine. He was also charged with three misdemeanors: discharging a firearm within 300 feet of a dwelling, obstructing the report of a crime and criminal mischief.
Hagan said Williams allegedly had been drinking at the time of the argument and was also charged with operating under the influence.
Williams was taken to Two Bridge Regional Jail in Wiscasset where he remained Thursday with no bail allowed. He was scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on Friday according to the jail. He is also scheduled to appear in court on May 11, according to Topsham police.
