Alvin Joseph Prevost

AUBURN – Alvin Joseph Prevost passed away peacefully on March 8, 2021 from Lewi Bodies Disease. He had lived at Schooner Estates in Auburn for the past five years.

He was born at home in Rumford, the youngest of 14 children. At 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and often would tell stories of his new world experiences, including having had a steak dinner for the first time. While home on leave, he laid eyes on Theresa Bellegarde, and told his friends, “that’s the woman I’m going to marry”, and he did.

He became known as “Al The Barber” having cut hair for 54 years. Al was a licensed arborist, and on his days off would cut down problem trees. He also would sell cars, as he was not the type to sit still. Al would never take a sick day, nor take any vacation time. His greatest pleasure was taking Sunday rides with his beloved Teressa and these rides often included family or friends. Often times these rides would take them out of state for a simple cup of coffee and a date square or going to Atlantic City to the Whitehouse Sub Shop, which he so loved.

While he was temporarily forced to find other means of support during the 70’s long hair era; he continued to make house calls and service area nursing homes. He returned to the profession and retired at the age of 75. He loved his work and socializing with his customers. Al will be remembered for his love of family and friends.

He was devoted to his mom and sisters and would be by their side at a moment’s notice. He also was known for his infectious personality, quick wit, and humble gratitude. Everyone loved AL, he had a way with people… We would love to thank all staff at Schooner Estates, and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice. There most compassionate, and professional care to not only Al, but also his family members made an unbearable loss bearable. For this we will be eternally grateful. They are truly angels on earth…

Al is survived by his son Mark Prevost and wife Lisa of Auburn; grandson Paul Cote Jr. and companion Heidi Saucier of Livermore; great- grandson Josh Saucier and great-grandson Patrick Saucier of Lewiston.
