100 Years Ago: 1921

All in line for the annual Easter openings today. Lewiston and Auburn will generally observe this as the day set apart for showing the new spring styles. The store windows are all dolled up and the style exhibit will not stop with those features which deal exclusively with women’s wearing apparel or the hat shop with these gorgeous array of brilliant head coverings, but the newest things in stock, will put a best foot forward. Men’s stores are showing a greater variety of novelties than over along with the substantial quiet, styles affected by older men.

50 Years Ago: 1971

Members of the Auburn Civil Defense Snowmobile Rescue Team will participate in a simulated rescue mission, Monday night in South Auburn. The new exercise was organized Wednesday night during a meeting of the Rescue Team at the Auburn CD headquarters at the new fire station. At that session, the members discussed the results of the first exercise held two weeks ago.

25 Years Ago: 1996

State Sen. Dana Hanley, R-Paris, presented a new state flag to Guy Rowe School officials on the 176th birthday of the State of Maine. The new flag, which has flown over the state capital building in Augusta, was presented on the 176th birthday of the state’s incorporation as a state. Principal Linda Bradley accepted the flag on behalf of the school to replace a badly worn one that flies on the Main Street side of the building. “Our flag was tattered, torn and we were very happy when we got this opportunity to receive a new flag. “School secretary, Connie Lachance phoned the office of Sen. Hanley, a former student at the school, who said he was glad to help.
