NEWRY — On March 16, selectmen unanimously approved having the town office stay as curbside service only for patrons until their next meeting.

“I would like to keep looking at this every two weeks,” Bartlett said. “For the time being, I would like to see it stay as curbside service only. We need to be vigilant about his.”

Selectman Dave Bartlett wondered if any issues had arisen with customers since the town switched to curbside service.

Selectman Gary Wight asked if a lot of people have been using the curbside service.

Selectman Tink Conkwright said he thinks the town office should return to being open to the public.

“I don’t think having people knocking on the door and then having them stand out there in the cold gives a very good impression,” Conkright said. “These guys also have to jump up and get the door while they are in the middle of doing things.”

Town Administrator Amy Bernard estimated that anywhere between four to 10 people use the curbside service per day.

Selectman Gary Wight said he would be okay with continuing curbside service for now, but thinks the town needs to consider going back to in-person service soon.

In February, the board made the decision to switch to curbside service only.

In other news, resident Randall Akers has expressed interest in joining the planning board, according to Bernard. If Akers joins the board, that would bring the number of members up to five. However, member Rebecca Bean has informed Bernard that she will not seek re-election once her term expires in June.

Selectmen approved the appointments of residents Amy Call and Bruce Pierce to the planning board. Also regarding the planning board, selectmen decided as of now not to hold a special town meeting to renew updates to the planning board ordinance.

Wight announced that two people recently joined the volunteer fire department.

Selectmen accepted a bid of $3,000, not including closing costs, for unit-303D at the Jordan Hotel from Brian and Lynda Egan. Officials authorized Bernard to sign off on the suit claims deed, according to the minutes.
