United Airlines is adding six new nonstop destinations from Portland International Jetport this summer, bringing its total number of nonstop routes from Portland to 10.

The new routes will provide direct flights to and from Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio; Indianapolis; Milwaukee and Pittsburgh. They will be available starting May 27, according to the jetport.

United already offers direct flights from Portland to Chicago, Denver, New York/Newark and Washington Dulles, the jetport said in its announcement Thursday. The new routes are part of a larger Midwest rollout by the airline, which is adding 26 direct flights from the region to a variety of popular destinations, including Portland

“This announcement by United Airlines is an important economic boost for the city of Portland,” said City Manager Jon Jennings in a statement. “The past year has been challenging with the pandemic, and this new nonstop service from six Midwest destinations makes it much easier to access our city. … I think many people will benefit from easier connections to family and friends in the Midwest.”

The news follows other recently announced route additions. Frontier Airlines announced this month that it will offer a limited run of direct flights between Portland and Tampa, Florida, beginning in April

American Airlines has said it will expand its seasonal weekly flight service from Portland to Miami and begin offering year-round flights in June. Delta Air Lines has said it will begin offering daily nonstop service between Portland and Minneapolis/St. Paul in May.
