FRYEBURG — The state’s new mobile vaccination unit will visit the Fryeburg Fairgrounds for four days, starting Friday, April 30, to provide COVID-19 shots to residents of western Maine.

The fairgrounds on Route 5 will be the fourth stop by the mobile unit during its two-month tour of 11 communities in rural and underserved municipalities to provide the one-and-done Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Appointments are required.

The stop in Fryeburg will continue through Monday, May 3.

The mobile clinics are a partnershsip between the state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Maine unit is FEMA’s second in New England and the sixth nationwide.

Residents in western Maine can make appointments by calling the state’s Community Vaccination Line at 888-445-4111. The unit is expected to vaccinate at least 250 individuals per day. All Maine residents 16 or older are eligible.

Staff from FEMA, the U.S Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Public Health Service as well as support from local and state emergency medical services, health care providers and other volunteers will run the clinics.

Fryeburg Town Manager Katie Haley did not return calls seeking comment.

Fryeburg will be the second time the mobile unit will visit Oxford County. It will spend a week at the Oxford Casino on Route 26 in Oxford beginning from Monday to Friday next week.
