LEWISTON — Two popular Lisbon Street restaurants that shut down last week with little notice expect to reopen soon.
Mother India and Break Coffee Shop each shut down April 12. They posted notices on social media that they would be “closed until further notice.”
The closings spurred concern on social media for the family that owns both businesses, as well as worry they might remain shuttered for good.
While neither has indicated a reopening date, Shivan Kumar said late Wednesday that both of the family-owned establishments closed temporarily due to a family illness.
Kumar is the general manager of his family’s restaurant, Mother India, which opened in 2009 at 114 Lisbon St. and also operates Break with partner Nikkita Sampson at 50 Lisbon St.
“Fortunately, things are looking better now,” he said, and each restaurant “will be reopening shortly.”
