Cecile Gagnon L’Heureux

BRUNSWICK – Cecile Frances Gagnon L’Heureux, 88, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2021 in Brunswick. Cecile was born in Westbrook on Jan. 14, 1933 to the late Edward and Valerie (Mineault) Gagnon.

Cecile was an accomplished pianist, international traveler and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She attended Lewiston High School and while there, she played the piano for the Evelyn Dyer Clark Dance School. After graduating in 1952, she worked as a proofreader for the French newspaper Le Messager for three years before marrying Louis C. L’Heureux on May 30, 1955. Together they moved to Albuquerque, N.M. where he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force and she was employed at the Atomic Energy Credit Union. Upon returning to Maine, she worked as an assistant treasurer (equivalent to a vice president) at the Ste. Croix Credit Union for 25 years.

Cecile and Louis loved to travel – both domestically and internationally. Their many adventures included trips to France and Italy as well as cruises all over the world. Their honeymoon spot, Quebec City, always remained their special place and she took her last trip there with family in November 2019. They spent many winters on Marco Island in Florida, often with friends and family.

Besides playing the piano daily, she loved swimming, tennis, reading, playing cards and eating out with family or friends. She was a communicant at Holy Cross Parish for 55 years as well as a faithful parishioner of St. John’s Church in Brunswick.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis L’Heureux; and her grandson, Nathan L’Heureux.

She is survived by her children Michael L’Heureux, Joanne L’Heureux King and her husband Dale, and Daniel L’Heureux; as well as her grandchildren Melissa L’Heureux Fries, Valerie King- Mallar, Andrea L’Heureux Croteau, Celeste L’Heureux Pulkkinen, Sara King, Adam King, Natalie King and Jayne King; and her seven great-grandchildren who will always remember her as “Memere Piano.”
