LEWISTON — Community Credit Union hosted a Community Recycle Day on April 24 to help community members do their part in celebrating Earth Day. The event included shredding personal documents for identity protection and alternatives to keep household items and tires out of landfills, and collected an estimated $375 in donations for the SHAREcenter to help continue supporting their mission
The purpose of the event was to highlight the importance of recycling and the collaboration of local organizations that offer recycling options to this community.
Several local organizations joined forces to make this event a success including Community Credit Union, Without A Trace Mobile Shredding, SHARECenter and Stratham Tire. Tires collected by Stratham Tire will be sent to a local Maine business and repurposed for engineering projects, 3,600 pounds of documents were shredded and a truckload of rescued reusables were collected for the SHAREcenter which will be re-distributed throughout their membership of schools and non-profits for repurposing.
