LEWISTON — Museum L-A plans to participate in the New England Franco-Route GeoTour, which debuts at 8 a.m. Friday, May 21.
Geocaching is a modern-day scavenger hunt for caches, or site-specific hidden objects. A geotour is a series of grouped geocache sites that share a common theme or history. This geotour route includes caches in the five cities which constitute the Franco route of New England: Woonsocket, Rhode Island; Lowell, Massachusetts; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Biddeford and Lewiston-Auburn.
In addition to the traditional treasure hunt aspect of geocaching, this geotour teaches the historical significance of its cache sites in English and French, making the New England Franco-Route GeoTour a uniquely engaging educational experience for individuals, families, friends, and classes of all ages.
Created by the French-Canadian Legacy Podcast of Manchester, N.H., this geotour offers many benefits. “Local participants, as well as tourists, will learn about Lewiston-Auburn and its rich history and heritage while enjoying a fun, outdoor activity geared to any skill level. Additionally, finding a hidden cache brings a true sense of success. Museum L-A is proud of this partnership and happy to be involved,” said Audrey Thomson, executive director at Museum L-A., according to a news release from the museum.
Nearly four million people are already part of the global geocaching community, with caches in 191 countries and every continent.
