Many outdoor Masses and prayer services are planned for cemeteries around Maine on Memorial Day Weekend, May 29 to 31.

An outdoor Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Robert Deeley at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, near the Armed Forces section of New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. Limited seating will be available, so attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. All are invited to this Mass, which is an occasion to pray for all our deceased loved ones.

Here is a list of outdoor Memorial Day Masses and services planned around Maine:

Biddeford
The Rosary will be prayed at noon Monday, May 31, at St. Joseph Cemetery on 120 West St. and St. Mary’s Cemetery on 530 Elm St. All are welcome to attend and honor those who have died in service of our country.

Houlton
St. Mary of the Visitation Parish will hold a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, May 30, at the old cemetery behind St. Mary of the Visitation Church on 112 Military St. Fr. Kent Ouellette will preside at the service, following the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

Houlton
Fr. Kent Ouellette will preside at a prayer service at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 30, at St. Mary’s Evergreen Cemetery on Old County Road.

Island Falls
Memorial Day prayers will be offered by Fr. Kent Ouellette at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at the cemetery, located on Belvedere Road, following the 5:30 p.m. Mass at St. Agnes Church on 76 Sewall St.

Livermore Falls
Weather permitting, Fr. Paul Dumais will celebrate a Memorial Day Mass at 1 p.m. Monday, May 31, at Holy Cross Cemetery on 445 Park St. Participants are asked to bring a lawn chair.

Rumford
Fr. Nathan March will celebrate Memorial Day Mass at at 8:15 a.m. Monday, May 31, at St. John’s Cemetery on Isthmus Road.

Sanford/Springvale
A Memorial Day Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at St. Ignatius Cemetery on Berwick Road in Springvale.

Yarmouth
A Memorial Day Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery on Smith Street. In the event of rain, the Mass will be moved to Sacred Heart Church on 326 Main St. (livestream).
