Norman R. Hersey
LEWISTON – Norman R. Hersey, 72, of Turner, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021, at CMMC with his family at his side.
Born Sept. 7, 1948, he was the youngest son of Ernest and Sadie Washburn Hersey.
On May 9, 1981, Norman married Lorrie Lee Nelson and together they raised three children, Melissa, Faith and Jeremy.
Norman operated the family dairy farm until 1985, then worked for H.E. Callahan for several years. He, then went to work for MSAD 52 as a bus mechanic for nine years before working at the Auburn quarry as a loader and heavy equipment operator.
Norman was devoted to his family and to his church family at Spirit of Fire. He was a vital part of the ministry for over 30 years. For many years you could find him cooking for the Saturday church breakfasts or doing the weekly food ministry. If he wasn’t helping out at church, you could find him visiting friends and family or out on is tractor or working around the house.
Norman is survived by his wife, Lorrie and his two daughters, Melissa Wing and husband, Al Wing and Faith Oakes and husband, Chad Oakes of Turner and his son, Jeremy Hersey of Virginia and two grandchildren, Sadie Wing and Jason Panzino.
He is also survived by four sisters, Elaine King, Marilyn Brackett, Blanche Marquis, and Connie Dick and two brothers, Harold (Buster) Hersey and William (Bill) Hersey and many nieces and nephews.
Norman was predeceased by his parents and eight siblings, Eloise, Thomas, Robert, Donald, Richard, Lois Porfirio, Frances Moulton, and Dorothy Skelton.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Christ Temple, Church of God in Christ at 2488 Turner St., in Auburn, on May 29, 2021, at 11 a.m. An outside gathering is planned after the service.
Interment will be at the South Turner, Upper St. Cemetery in Turner at a later date.
