To the Editor:

My name is Patricia [Pat] McCartney and I am writing, not only to introduce myself to those who do not know me, but also to announce my desire to become a Select board member for the Town of Bethel and would therefore appreciate your vote during the upcoming June election!

I have lived in the Bethel Community for the last 18 years, having moved here with my late husband, Bob McCartney, upon purchasing  the Pleasant River Motel in West Bethel, which we successfully operated for 15 years.

Besides long term involvement with the area business community, I have also stayed active with other aspects of Bethel such as The American Legion, a local Quilting group, the Senior Players, a number of charity projects, while also serving on various committees for the Town of Bethel.

I am presently in my fourth term as a member of Bethel’s Planning Board and have also served as a member and Chairperson with Bethel’s Ordinance Review Committee.

Also, in early 2018, as a representative from the Planning Board, I was appointed to serve on Bethel’s Marijuana Ordinance Committee, and also became the Chairperson. Working with that group for nearly a year and a half gave me some extremely valuable insights that will serve me well should I be elected to the Select board.

I approached it objectively, with willingness to learn and dedication to complete our job, however, that job gifted me with a “committee member perspective” that, should I become a Select board member,  will definitely benefit my approach to encouraging and engaging in “effective communication” with future committee situations, and a first hand understanding and appreciation of the important efforts by volunteer citizens who serve on committees!

I would very much appreciate your vote and if I am elected to Bethel’s Select board,  I will serve with and an open mind and I will educate myself on whatever subjects we face.
