MEXICO — A brief Memorial Day service was held Monday at the Veterans Memorial Green on Main Street.

Town Manager Raquel Welch organized the event and gave a speech. Boy Scouts from Troop 580 read the names of Mexico residents who died during military service. The Scouts gave a brief description of each war.

A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Roger White of White’s Yardworks of Rumford, followed by a dedication of the flag he and his crew created to honor past, present and future veterans.

In April, White and his crew built the 48 by 25-foot American flag with red, white and blue bricks in the banking on the banking of the Veterans Memorial Green. The flag replaces the Mexico town sign that greeted visitors for decades.
