Deborah Leighton
FRANKLIN, Mass. – Deborah Leighton, 73, of Auburn, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 19, 2021. Deborah was born in Portland to John and Jeanette (Robinson) Leighton on Sept. 4, 1947. She graduated from Gardiner High School and went on to attend Farmington State Teachers College.Deborah founded Maine Proofreading Services in 1991 and successfully operated it until December of 2015. At its peak, Maine Proofreading employed a staff of 20 people. Debbie and her company were profiled in The Sun Journal in October of 1999.She was a communicant and supporter of East Auburn Baptist Church, where she was a participant in the church choir. Deborah found great comfort streaming church services when she could no longer attend in person.Deborah had many talents and hobbies including playing the piano, skiing, reading and supporting the arts in her community. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling to play on different courses.Deborah is survived by her dearest friend and confidant Gard Briggs of Auburn; her son James Doughty and his wife Sheila of Auburn; and granddaughters Chloe and Michelle Doughty of Auburn. Deborah is also survived by her brother John Leighton and his wife Darla of North Attleboro, Mass. She was preceded in death by her parents; a great- granddaughter Harper Grace; and her sister Joyce Texeira.Condolences and fond memories may be shared at http://www.thefortingroupauburn.com Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner St. Auburn.
