Margaret C. Holden
LEWISTON – Margaret C. Holden went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on June 3, 2021, after nearly two years of receiving compassionate care at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. Margaret was born in Newry, Maine on Feb. 1, 1935, to Charles and Hazel Cary. The third of nine children, she grew up in Bryant Pond and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1953.
On June 29, 1969, she married William Douglas Holden, and they made their home in South Paris for 50 years – a home that was always open, where all were welcomed, and where she ran a day care for 40 years.
She was a member of the South Paris Baptist Church and was involved in the AWANA ministry for children. She loved to cook, sew, knit and crochet, and made an afghan for almost every child she knew.
She is survived by her loving husband Bill; their children Bambi Walker of Lewiston, Laurie Holden of Pennsylvania., Terry Holden of South Paris, Ellie McKeen of Virginia, and Anthony Holden of Oxford; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister Rebecca Keen and brother Paul Cary; and many caring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Loreda Wheeler in 2010; grandson Zachary Wheeler in 2013; three brothers and three sisters. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at the South Paris Baptist Church on Thursday, June 10 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at Riverside Annex Cemetery in South Paris.
